For Cuban families, long hours without electricity have become part of daily life as the US blockade has cut off the country’s oil supply. Kamila is just one of millions of Cubans living with the consequences of this policy of collective punishment.
For Kamila and her mother, the situation is especially serious. Kamila lives with cerebral palsy. Her food needs to be blended and safely refrigerated. She also struggles to regulate her body temperature, making the heat particularly dangerous. Without electricity, caring for her is a serious challenge. Electricity is not a luxury, it is essential to Kamila’s survival, wellbeing and ability to progress.
