My name is Jorge Álvarez Santiesteban. I am a musician and the father of Jonathan, a young person with autism. From Havana, I lead the project ACUMEDE – INPRODES (I Owe Myself to Cuba: Inclusion, Participation and Development), focused on supporting children and young people with autism.
As many know, our country is going through a very difficult situation. The shortage of fuel is severely affecting all sectors of the economy and public services.
In Cuba, many families and centres operate with very limited resources. The lack of materials, therapies, and support restricts the development of these young people, despite the enormous efforts of those who care for and support them.
Our project provides a space where children and young people can learn and grow through art, cooking, agriculture, and crafts, strengthening their skills, independence, and confidence.
We also produce food, including gluten-free options, supporting vulnerable families.
We believe that, with the right support, these children and young people can grow and actively integrate into society.

Urgent need: transportation
The main obstacle today is transportation. In Havana, there are long waits and heavy overcrowding. For children with autism, this creates anxiety and, in many cases, prevents them from attending.
We are raising funds for an electric tricycle that will allow safe and reliable transport.
It is not a luxury. It is an essential need.

Ayuda a jóvenes con autismo en Cuba
Mi nombre es Jorge Álvarez Santiesteban. Soy músico y padre de Jonathan, un joven con autismo. Desde La Habana impulso el proyecto ACUMEDE - INPRODES – (A Cuba me Debo Inclusión, Protagonismo y Desarrollo), enfocado en apoyar a niños y jóvenes con autismo.
Como muchos saben, nuestro país atraviesa una situación muy difícil. La escasez de combustible está afectando gravemente todos los sectores de la economía y los servicios públicos.
En Cuba, muchas familias y centros trabajan con recursos muy limitados. La falta de materiales, terapias y apoyo limita el desarrollo de estos jóvenes, a pesar del enorme esfuerzo de quienes los cuidan y acompañan.
Nuestro proyecto ofrece un espacio donde los niños y jóvenes pueden aprender y desarrollarse mediante el arte, la cocina, la agricultura y la artesanía, fortaleciendo sus habilidades, autonomía y confianza.
También producimos alimentos, incluyendo opciones sin gluten, apoyando a familias vulnerables.
Creemos que, con el apoyo adecuado, estos niños y jóvenes pueden crecer e integrarse activamente en la sociedad.

El principal obstáculo hoy es el transporte. En La Habana hay largas esperas y mucha aglomeración. Para niños con autismo, esto genera ansiedad y, en muchos casos, les impide asistir.
Estamos recaudando fondos para un triciclo eléctrico que permitirá trasladarlos de forma segura y estable.
No es un lujo. Es una necesidad esencial.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this effort 💛 We are delighted to share that we have raised £2,679, surpassing our initial goal.
Thanks to this incredible solidarity and support, we have purchased a 3 kW solar panel at a cost of £2,288, as well as a sound system for £322 for the artistic group Sueños Conquistados of Granjita Feliz.
The donations also include costumes, gardening tools, and footballs, all of which will support the community’s creative and recreational activities.
All donations were delivered as part of the Nuestra América Flotilla/Convoy initiative. We are especially happy to share that the solar panels have now been successfully installed and are already contributing to the project.
We are also sharing some images from Cuba and from the event held at the Casa de la Cultura in Guanabacoa, where the association Cubanos en UK donated a solar panel, sound equipment, and other small contributions.
This community project, Granjita Feliz, is home to a children’s theatre group that warmly welcomed members of the Nuestra América Global Convoy—from Ireland and the United States—sharing their love, creativity, and artistic expression.

🙏 Help us raise funds to provide solar panels for Granjita Feliz, a community project in Guanabacoa, in eastern Havana, very active in its neighbourhood, dedicated to educational work and full of love — especially for children with disabilities.
Following the tightening of United States sanctions and restrictions affecting fuel imports into the country, the situation in Cuba has become even more difficult. Constant power cuts and resource shortages directly impact the entire population, especially the most vulnerable. Without stable electricity, many essential activities are disrupted. The energy crisis is so severe that hospitals have reported power outages during operations that must continue using the improvised light of mobile phones, as well as interruptions to vital treatments such as dialysis and cancer care, among others.
🎯 Initial Goal:
£2,000 to cover the purchase, transport, and installation of one solar panel system.
If we raise more, we will be able to purchase additional panels and expand the impact.

Tras el endurecimiento de las sanciones de Estados Unidos y las restricciones que afectan la entrada de combustible al país, la situación en Cuba se ha vuelto aún más difícil. Los constantes apagones y la escasez de recursos impactan directamente a toda la población, especialmente a las personas más vulnerables. Sin electricidad estable, muchas actividades esenciales se ven interrumpidas. La situación energética es tan extrema que se han reportado afectaciones en hospitales: apagones durante operaciones que deben continuar con la luz improvisada de teléfonos móviles, además de interrupciones en tratamientos vitales como la diálisis y la atención oncológica, entre otros.
